all that glitters.

September 13th, 2011 by Ruth

lately, i’ve been obsessing over anything that’s glitter. in my mind, the more the merrier applies to more than just parties and gatherings. so as if my sally hansen salon effects weren’t enough, i piled on my favorite silver bracelets [note: charm bracelet from college packed with memories from studying in florence, my 21st birthday, etc.], wore my striped j.crew shirt that has sequins on it, added my jeweled necklace from j.crew and wore my ellen tracy heels that have patent leather on them.

so i got the pants from j.crew outlet, i know, where else? anyways, they were $30 and i couldn’t resist. i like pairing a snazzy shirt with a casual pant, or vice versa. and the bag, is my trusty felix rey for target [no longer available]. while the piping is popping out and the seams are fraying, i can’t get enough of the shape, color and hardware.

how do you bring your casual pieces into the mix?

comfy isn’t chic {in this instance}.

So, maybe this isn’t the most flattering outfit. The skirt (Target) is a tich too big, the shirt is shapeless (just like I like it), and perhaps heels would have been better than the silver Calvin Klein flats. But hey, I have my fair share of BAD days too. What I do like is the texture of this shirt and the fact that I got it for $12 at Marshalls. I also love this bejeweled J.Crew necklace. How would you wear your favorite t-shirt and skirt?

Shirt: American Apparel

Cardigan: J.Crew

Lip: MAC Russian Red Lipstick

Necklace: Kailis “O” Pendant

Pants: Target brand leggings

A huge fan of Kailis, I am drawn to the “O” necklace as it’s long, has a pearl (OBVI), and amps a casual Sunday outfit. I love wearing this American Apparel dress t-shirt on the wekeends – it’s comfortable, soft, and neutral in color. Obsessed with a red lip, MAC’s Russian Red Lipstick is a rich, deep red that is easy to wear.

Tucker for Target

Leather Gap Trench Coat

DSC_0077We’ve been having some dreary weather as of late and I decided to brighten things up with this Tucker for Target dress. Purchased for a $8 from the Target clearance rack, this might be my best steal ever. The Nine West booties were purchased at the Jersey Outlet for $50. Bringing sunshine to my cloudy day, the store manager informed me that I could get a second pair for $25. Obviously, I was sold! Now, I own them in camel, black patent and gray! Stay tuned for their debuts!

Clearly, you can see that I have an affinity for purple and green. One day, I woke up, and everything in my closet was a hue appropriate for a jester’s or queen’s closet. I’m talking from hats to socks and sneakers. At least I’ve muted the palette a bit with my favorite brown J.Crew boots. Almost forgot to mention, the blue dress is Charter Club, and I purchased it for maybe $20. It’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it!

While on a shopping excursion at Target, I came across the highly regarded Tucker for Target line. Shocked to see remnants from the launch, I scooped up this shirt dress for an affordable $39.99. Paired with a chunky belt bought ages ago from Express (I know.. I know), my J.Crew riding boots, I needed some contrast. I quickly dug out the striped tights my lovely mother purchased for me at a deep discount and put a coat of my new NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned to amplify the foxy look. Topped with my $14.99 Mossimo hat and London Fog trench purchased on sale for $100, I was ready to roll.

OOTD: Right on Target

September 22nd, 2010 by Ruth

On Sunday afternoon my girlfriend and I stopped at our local Target for a few items to wrap a friend’s bridal shower gift. After scoring some gorgeous boxes and tissue paper, obviously we had to head over to check out the clothing.

I came across the below Xhileration tank and lace skirt and thought I hit the lottery. I’d been looking for a lace skirt for so long but never came across one I was crazy about and at a $12 price tag for each item, I couldn’t go wrong. I love pairing lace and leather so I clearly had to rock my Turkish leather jacket and beloved J.Crew riding boots.

While searching for a set of bedroom lamps, I fell in love with this crystal one from Bed Bath & Beyond, but thought $200 for two lights was a bit steep for my budget-friendly bedroom. So off I trailed to Target, where I landed two similar lamps for $79.98 total! The website doesn’t have this particular model listed, but my local store had plenty available. The lamp pictured above is almost identical to the one I’ve bought. I’m setting them on top of existing side tables that I’m sprucing up a bit with a fresh coat of turquoise paint, for a look that’s not too bold, but super chic. Pictures to come once we’re settled in!
