Light the night.

While searching for a set of bedroom lamps, I fell in love with this crystal one from Bed Bath & Beyond, but thought $200 for two lights was a bit steep for my budget-friendly bedroom. So off I trailed to Target, where I landed two similar lamps for $79.98 total! The website doesn’t have this particular model listed, but my local store had plenty available. The lamp pictured above is almost identical to the one I’ve bought. I’m setting them on top of existing side tables that I’m sprucing up a bit with a fresh coat of turquoise paint, for a look that’s not too bold, but super chic. Pictures to come once we’re settled in!

Spring has sprung at Target.

March 15th, 2010 by Catherine

There was a whole lot of buzz leading up to Liberty of London’s launch at Target. The British house of prints created a collection of home goods, women’s clothing, accessories, and more, all in their signature spring patterns. I started swooning for everything when I first spied their lookbook, but I’m particularly taken by these cheery plates. I can’t imagine my cooking could ever taste bad when served on such darling dinnerware.

I dream of Jean Paul Gaultier.

Since my weekend trek to Target, I haven’t been able to quit thinking about my absolute favorite purchase of the year from Jean Paul Gaultier. Like designers before him, this collaboration with the store hasn’t disappointed, with easy-to-wear, high-style pieces, affordably ranging in price from $19.99 for tops, and $199.99 for leather jackets. My find, a floral print bikini (pictured above), lives up to the Gaultier standard, with bold color and details (including a scary/but-not-really spider on the back of the bikini bottom). With a vacation to Aruba planned at the end of May, I’ve got my sights set on its island debut!

Sandy comfort.

beach

There’s only one thing I love more than the beach itself – a giant, plush beach blanket to loll around on all day. Having never been a fan of narrow towels, I rejoiced last year when I came across Target’s own brand of oversized, 6′x6′ blankets, marked down to $4 at the time. I bought the last two in August 2009, and have been on the hunt for them again ever since. This year they’re back (hurrah!), and despite being full price, I stocked up on two to keep me and my beach bum friends comfy for as long as they last (which by Target’s high standards, seems to be forever).

Update: I hunted and hunted for a link on Target’s website, but it isn’t up yet. Check your local store for now, and keep coming back here for when the website is stocked, too.

Mossimo Black Seamed Leggings, $8.99

Mossimo Black Seamed Leggings, $8.99

When it comes to classic staples, nothing really beats leggings. Not only can you pair them with anything (sweaters, dresses, oversized t-shirts, whatever!), they flatter legs like you wouldn’t believe. If you’re not sure you’ve got the gams to rock them, take an honest friend with you to try on a pair to get her opinion. I’m convinced they flatter everyone, and with chilly weather here to stay (for at least a few more months here in the U.S.), your legs could use a little extra coverage from the elements. Go for ankle-length pairs for optimum flattery, and try them out with ballet flats or biker boots to complete your look. I’m loving the price and quality of these leggings from Target.

Chic Frills Gift Guide: Super Jammies.

December 10th, 2009 by Catherine

One of the best gifts I receive each year (and we’re talking every year for as long as I can remember) is pajamas. Is there a set rule on how many pajamas one person should own? Hopefully not because I’m about to stock up my friends and family with an adorable set. Oh, and they’re less than $10. Find out where to get them after the jump! (more…)

I’m a Wanders-er.

December 2nd, 2009 by Ruth

I think it’s my love for design or perhaps Target’s ability to bring luxury to the masses, but currently, I’m obsessed with Marcel Wanders. I thought I had my fill of the designer after purchasing a few candlestick holders and serving dishes when his line became available at the chain store.

However, as recently mentioned on New York Time’s The Moment Blog, Wanders is now showing at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Personally arranged from his Dutch studio, Wanders choreographed his first American exhibition “Marcel Wanders: Daydreams”.

Pictured above, a crocheted chair hangs from a big white balloon, which doubles as a projection screen showing images of the sky. Defying gravity and presented in an artistic manner, the exhibition run until June 13, 2010.

Daily Diamond: Target Capiz Shell Floral Pendant Light

Target Capiz Shell Floral Pendant Light, $339.99

While I’m forever on the hunt for items to improve and update the look of my home, I always take the time to think rationally about what it is I want to buy. It’s a shopping method that I believe has saved me from frivolous purchases and wasting money. Whenever I find an accent piece, I take the time to think rationally about where it will go in my home, and if it will fit with my existing belongings. So while searching for a light to replace an outdated one, all rationale went out the window when I swooned for this light at Target. It’s absolutely stunning and would look right at home above my kitchen table. Although it requires professional installation (Boyfriend, if you’re listening…), the showstopping nature of this alternative chandelier is worth the extra assistance. Currently marked down from $399.99 to $339.99, it’s a splurge that will take your home from drab to dazzling.
