Let’s hear it for the boys (blazers)!

August 18th, 2009 by Catherine

There’s a whole lotta fuss about boyfriend blazers being hot for fall and I’m not about to argue with it. I’ve long been rocking a crisp black blazer, dating back to my college days, and don’t think I’ll ever be able to retire mine. Just one great, tailored jacket is all you’ll need to get you through your day and into the night, too, as it looks equally stylish worn with jeans and a tee as it does with a cocktail dress. I’ve rounded up my favorite few below and want to know – will you be sporting a blazer this fall?

The ones above, from left to right are: Topshop’s Premium Boyfriend BlazerWhite House Black Market’s Girlfriend Blazer, and Nordstrom’s Hinge Boyfriend Blazer.

Make your clothing budget go farther.

imagesWe here at Chic Thrills are always looking for ways to save a buck or two anytime we make a purchase, whether it’s a pair of killer shoes at Nordstrom or a bag of apples at the grocery store. Living well and spending wisely is, after all, our mantra. The folks at Lucky must be on to our cause with September’s “Maximize Your Clothing Budget”, a four page spread chock full of great tips on looking your best without breaking the bank. Below, we’ve broken down our top three favorite tips.

1. Make sure you walk on a hard surface when trying on shoes. Almost everything is comfortable on a rug (and shoe departments are almost always carpeted), but it can be a different story on a wood floor.

2. Spend the cash to have rubber soles put on all of your new shoes. It will double their life – and often save it, if you get caught in a storm. (Editor’s note: So true! Having lived in Manhattan for two years, walking everywhere, I lost count of the shoes I burned holes through. My shoe repair guy once tacked on some rubber soles to my favorite ballet flats, and I’ve never had that problem again with that particular pair!)

3. Follow your favorite brands on Twitter and Facebook. They’ll post coupon codes and special insider sales there. And sign up for store newsletters to get pre-sale discounts and info on new arrivals. But think about creating a second e-mail account to separate the updates from your regular mail – you’re likely to be deluged.
