I’m a Wanders-er.

December 2nd, 2009 by Ruth

I think it’s my love for design or perhaps Target‘s ability to bring luxury to the masses, but currently, I’m obsessed with Marcel Wanders. I thought I had my fill of the designer after purchasing a few candlestick holders and serving dishes when his line became available at the chain store.

However, as recently mentioned on New York Time’s The Moment Blog, Wanders is now showing at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Personally arranged from his Dutch studio, Wanders choreographed his first American exhibition “Marcel Wanders: Daydreams”.

Pictured above, a crocheted chair hangs from a big white balloon, which doubles as a projection screen showing images of the sky. Defying gravity and presented in an artistic manner, the exhibition run until June 13, 2010.

This holiday season, velvet is making a comeback. Whether you incorporate the chic fabric into your style via skinny pants, cropped jackets or shoes, make sure that the dreamy texture makes a guest appearance.
While a little out of my price range, I’m dreaming of wrapping my tootsies in these yummmy Miu Mius. Adorned with an adorable bow, the soft rounded toe is comfortable for parties where you’ll be on your feet all night and will complement any look.
‘Tis the season to dream a little dream!

According to the New York Times, there is a resurrgence in late 19th century fashion. The return of tweed vests, slim trousers, hunting boots, and big brass buttoned military jackets will have another go down the realway. Blurring the lines between dapper and pretention, structured wool, tweed and houndstooth garb are reappearing.

Above, find a few of my favorite splurges. Enjoy!

A few nights ago while my boyfriend and I we were snacking on Vosges’s Caramel Toffee – Caramel Marshmallows, it dawned on my boyfriend that next he wanted to try their Bacon Caramel Toffee. Because I’m a vegetarian, I can’t enjoy this gourmet comfort food. However, the holidays, his birthday and Valentine’s Day will be here before I know it. That said, I made a mental note to investigate.

To my surprise, I came across Sir Francis Bacon Brittle while digging around in the New York Times gift guide. Available at Dean & DeLuca stores or on baconpeanutbrittle.com, three ounces go for $6 and eight ounces for $16; eight ounces for $15.95 plus shipping from baconpeanutbrittle.com. While a little on the expensive side for chocolates, I plan to scoop them up. I know he’ll be super appreciate and love them.

Wrap it up.

October 21st, 2009 by Ruth

I was heading off to a friend’s birthday party and realized I forgot to purchase wrapping paper for her present. Now, at 26 years of age, I wouldn’t say it’s exactly necessary to wrap a present however, it’s definitely a bonus to finish off your thoughtful gift with pretty paper. Because it was the last minute, I improvised and grabbed the Thursday and Sunday New York Times Style section and began wrapping! I finished the gift off with twine and some old handmade cards I had lying around . And even if you don’t have the New York Times Style section, you could get away with magazine tear-outs and other newspaper clippings. Chic and eco-friendly!

In a pickle.

picklesDating back to 2030 BC in Mesopotamia, the pickled cucumber has been a staple in everyday diets throughout history. Now a cultural favorite, you can save money (and have a little fun!) by making your own. Check out Mark Bittman’s (of the New York Times) pickle recipe after the jump and enjoy! (more…)
