Recycle.
November 8th, 2010 by RuthI’ve always been a proponent of the phrase, “Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, too”. While this refers to waste management, I’ve applied it to my closet. I’ve had this coat for over five years and when the lining became holier than my security blanket, I replaced it with this gorgeous purple fabric, bought from a fabric shop in Chinatown. I acquired the Gap sweater in a clothing swap; the corduroys are the result of a smart J.Crew Factory purchase; and the shoes were purchased at a Prada outlet in Tuscany. Last but not least, the J.Crew pave bracelet was borrowed from Ms. Eileen Dautruche of Miss Whoever You Are. So while my milk cartons and glass jars might not make it in the right bin, my clothing is always recycled.
Gemma.
November 2nd, 2010 by RuthI’ve been meaning to go to Gemma in The Bowery Hotel for quite some time now. After hearing mixed reviews, I’ve come to the conclusion that the food and ambiance is definitely worth the visit – repeated food experience, well that’s a different story.
While I dined on Truffle Scented Mushrooms, Truffled Polenta Fries (do you see a pattern here?), and Branzino al Forno, I engaged in conversation with my inspiring co-workers and laughed uncontrollably, thanks to the hysterical Eileen Dautruche of Miss Whoever You Are. The food was good, I’ve had better Branzino and Truffle Mushroom at a number of restaurants; perhaps I’ll try a pasta dish or pizza next time.
I loved the heavy wooden tables and chairs and the use of cast iron chandeliers and dimmed lights to set the mood. I adored the vintage-inspired plates used – I felt like I was in a small trattoria on the way down to Sorrento. Although I’m a pescetarian, I appreciate proscuitto legs hanging in any kitchen; it makes an Italian space feel authentic.
