My dear friend Rosemary, brought in her 28th birthday with a “Nantuck in NYC” party on the rooftop of her East Village apartment. To complement the popped collars, boat shoes, Lilly Pulitzer and madras prints I wore a paisley print J.Crew dress, which has pockets, obvs. Paired with strands of J.Crew pearls, a green linen blazer, and a white Banana Republic bag made of luscious leather, I was ready to paint the town red.

During the week, I tend to accumulate embarrassingly large quantities of things in my oversized purses. Receipts, water bottles, coins, etc. all find their way into the bottom of my bag, and quite frankly, my back and I have had enough. Instead of carting my laptop and other non-essentials around on errands, I’m going to stick with the bare minimum – lip gloss, cell phone, wallet, keys. That’s why I’ve decided to ditch the giant bags each weekend and switch to a more joint-friendly cross-body purse when I can lighten up a little bit. This bag from Marc by Marc Jacobs has everything I’m looking for in a weekend bag, with none of the bulk of my usual picks.

You make me happy, when skies are gray.

A killer pair of sunglasses can raise the bar on an otherwise simple outfit. They can also hide a magnitude of sins (late nights, teary movies, lack of mascara, etc.) and thanks to celebs like Vicky Beckham, Nicole Richie, and Ashley Olsen, they’re totally appropriate in any venue. Indoors. Outdoors. Doesn’t matter. We should also mention our non-negotiable approach to choosing the perfect pair – “bigger is better”. Take these bad boys from Marc by Marc Jacobs.
