white everything.

June 27th, 2011 by Ruth

After an incredible cultural experience at Bonnaroo and some time off from blogging, I feel inspired although, I know,  you wouldn’t be able to tell from my choice in clothing. For whatever reason, I find myself wearing all white, all the time. Anyways, my go-to jeans are my white straight-leg Zara’s. I love this cozy summer white sweater from Gap, which I got on sale for $30. I scored this scarf from a vintage store in the East Village and my INC wedges on sale from Macys. I guess my MAC Carthage lips and Essie toes can represent my inspiration. More TK.

The “Go To”.

November 1st, 2010 by Ruth

There are days when I want to put ZERO effort into styling myself. On these days, I wear a dress, more specifically the below “Go To”. Purchased for $30 from Macy’s Charter Club collection, this chicskate dress fits well and complements my coloring perfectly. It’s great to feel incredibly confident in something that cost less than a dinner for two!

Bonded.

October 2nd, 2010 by Ruth

These images are from a photo shoot with Casey Carter of Casey Culture on Bond Street at Lafayette. I love the charm of the brick streets and how the color of them matches the gray Calvin Klein dress. I’ve had this dress for some years now and it’s become my go-to when I want to be comfortable yet stylish. I like to pair muted colors with a pattern and lately, I’ve become fond of animal prints — the Charter Club cardigan was a perfect match. I purchased it for under $20 at Macy’s. The wellies are from British company, Wedge Welly. They’re incredibly comfortable and have a cute little wedge that makes you feel a bit sexier than the average rain boot does. The necklace is one of my favorites – a smart $50 purchase at the J.Crew outlet store, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve worn it. I pair it with just about anything when I want to spice up an outfit and feel a bit more sophisticated.

Life on Lafayette.

September 30th, 2010 by Ruth

I took a few minutes prior to leaving for the Estée Lauder Breast Cancer Awareness event at Bloomingdale’s to take these shots (thanks Casey of Casey Culture). Paired with flats and a canvas tote for errands, or pearls and heels for an opening, this black dress, purchased for $35 at Banana Republic, is perfect for any occasion. Pearls, the new girl’s best friend, are essential for dressing up even the simplest of ensembles. I snagged this multi-string pearl necklace for $50 at the J.Crew outlet. The Coach shoes were bought on sale at Macy’s for $100. Perfect for work, dinners and weddings, I’ve definitely brought the price per wear down to a minimum.

OOTD: Tres chic.

September 28th, 2010 by Ruth

On a Macy’s shopping excursion with my dear mother, I came across this yellow INC blazer and scooped this baby up for $20. I know, I know, unbelievable, right?! The Rachel Rachel Roy knit shirt became mine for only $40! This shirt is stylish, comfortable and VERY forgiving! The jeans are from Zara and were purchased two summers ago. Tres chic.

OOTD: Old with the new.

I tend to rarely purge my closet. Reasoning being, I am notorious for pairing oldies with new gems. I purchased these white bermuda shorts a few years ago for under $50 at Nordstrom, scored the top and Coach heels at Macy’s for $40 and $100, respectively. Both fantastic, smart purchases, the shoes can be worn from spring through the end of summer and when paired with gray pants and a casual blazer, the shirt will take me into the winter.

Charter Club White Dress

J.Crew sandals

On my latest shopping trip, I came across some amazing deals at Macy’s. I find a number of fabulous steals at what many consider to be their shopping mecca. As I’m exiting the store, my eye caught a sale rack stacked with summer finds suitable for any chicskate.

As I culled through the sections, I uncover this fabulous white dress from Macy’s brand, Charter Club. Not only does the dress fit me perfectly, but the linen is of great quality and the dress has a built in liner. Of course, being the bargain shopper that I am, I use the price scanner to find out that it’s ONLY $20! Seriously, what more could a girl ask for? My friend said it well, “What can you get for $20? My groceries cost more than that!”

Anyways, so the next time you’re leaving Macy’s, don’t forget to stop at the treasure trove, otherwise known as the Charter Club section.

Rachel Rachel Roy Handbag, $58.99

Rachel Rachel Roy Handbag, $58.99

When on a tight budget, it can be tough (or, perhaps in some cases, suffocating) to stick with a budget. It’s a complaint I frequently hear from my girlfriends who are switching jobs, or even just entering a new field, when they can’t really afford to update their wardrobes to fit the dresscode of a new office. But it can be fairly simple to make major upgrades with a minimal budget. Case in point? This classic bag from Rachel Roy’s collection for Macy’s. Its timeless shape and minimal hardware make it ideal for those preferring to not splash a lot of cash on accessories, but still need to look polished and professional. That’s the thing about dressing for work – if you can find high quality, affordable pieces, there’s just no need to drop thousands of dollars on a complete wardrobe overhaul. Key pieces, like this handbag here, will make you look like a million bucks.

Style & Co. Trees Bedding

Style & Co. Trees Bedding

Diving into deep holiday discounts, I trekked out to Macys at 7am earlier this morning to experience my first Black Friday. Previously seen on CasaSugar, I was on the hunt for the Style & Co. Trees bedding collection so I headed straight to the home department.

Low and behold, I found the Standard and Euro Pillowshams on sale! Originally$60 and $70 respectively, the prices were significantly reduced to $12 and $18! Snagged at approximately 1/5 of the price, my couch will go from drab to fab with four shams for a total of $30!

Not too shabby for my first Black Friday experience! In my opinion, it was well worth it!
