how many tiers does it take?

August 17th, 2011 by Ruth

thanks to the amazing environment my office fosters, my team held a clothing swap and pot luck where i scored this tiered dress-turned-shirt. little secret…. it’s from court + hudson’s closet. thankfully i was able to get the red wine stains out of my white jeans and could pair them with this forever 21 top. a little spray & wash and bleach, and that pinot nior didn’t stand a chance! thanks to my sweet boyfriend for the new evil eye (nazar) straight from the streets of istanbul.

I took the time to go outside and enjoy a very lovely day last week. Even though the wind was blowing and we were in the shade on Lafayette, I was able to get a few good shots. Here’s my favorite:

Owls, owls, everywhere.

March 5th, 2010 by Catherine

Earlier in the week, I wrote about my curious affection for these adorable little owl candles. This, in turn, has sparked a budding new obsession with them.

Bills will never go unnoticed when perched on this little guy.

Such a sweet little necklace at an even sweeter price.

I could probably even train my boyfriend to hang up his coat on a hook as charming as this one.

I love nothing more than a big, bold ring. It’s even better when it’s of my new favorite animal.

Trends: Friend or Foe?

January 5th, 2010 by Catherine

At the end of last month, Yahoo released their list of the 11 worst trends from this past decade. And while I agree with some (harem pants, the “Juicy tracksuit”, visible thongs), I can’t help but blush at a few others that I definitely fell for. What’s wrong with leggings as pants again? And do I really have to toss my beloved Uggs, stashed at the way, way back of my closet?

When it comes to trends, it can sometimes be difficult to see an expiration date on them, but we here at Chic Thrills have a fool-proof way of sifting through the fads just by imagining ourselves in 10 years. Will you look back on pictures and cringe? Can you see yourself still wearing said item when you’re older? If the answer is no, then you may want to invest your money elsewhere.

There are ways, however, to update your wardrobe without looking like a fashion victim. Rather than opt for full looks, why not incorporate the trend into some affordable accessories? When neon was the color palette to dress from a few months ago, I couldn’t bear to relive my childhood by wearing blinding hues. Instead, I headed to Forever 21 to score some cheap bangles to spice up what clothes I already own. Smart shopping like that will save you time and money (and, let’s be serious – embarrassment from Facebook pictures gone bad).
