The red door.

October 21st, 2010 by Ruth

The vibrancy of the red door against the distressed green Banana Republic dress sweeps me away to an afternoon in the country. I’m eating a fluffy egg white omelet with fresh goat cheese and herbs from Mario Batali’s Eataly. The antique aesthetic of the door tricks me into thinking the door opens to a country kitchen furnished with raw wood chairs and an over sized table with claw feet; I’m eating my brunch off of heavy ceramic white dishware ala Christiane Lemieux Shabby Chic; drinking my mimosa from a Mason jar; all while the occasional waft of fresh lavender drifts through my nose, reinvigorating my senses.

There’s a lovely little e-boutique called Spool No. 72, and I’ve got a major crush on all their affordable, sweet dresses and accessories. It’s their “unfussy approach to style” that initially hooked me, but their customer attention that has me coming back for more. After emailing their service rep about an out of stock dress, I received an email not just that day about its restock timeline, but again 3 weeks later when the dress had arrived. I’ve already placed my order (which will come neatly shipped in a box packed with shredded, recycled sheet music) for the MacIntosh Dress, and may go back for the rest a little later in the season.

What’s more darling than a bright dress paired with bold navy and white stripes? The contrast alone makes for a huge statement, but when cinched with a bow, it’s a ladylike dress for every occasion.

With denim cutoffs and chunky sandals, this top makes for an elegant-meets-hippie pairing, perfect for summer days and lazy strolls.

I love the delicate gold of these dangly earrings. I can picture myself wearing them to any event – weddings, meetings, dinners – without looking too “done.”
