October 23rd, 2011 by Ruthwhat a brilliant way to reach the tastemakers via influencer street crowds. ralph lauren brings tweed, luggage colored oxfords, bowties + newsboy caps to the forefront of fashion by dressing 300 people in 1930′s/1940′s styled clothing. bike riding through various nyc neighborhoods, they drew attention on their tweed run as they were visually representing one specific era.
take a look at bill cunningham’s “natty” ny times shots + voice-over video [Bill Cunningham\'s Natty] to see how they made an impact by simply getting together and spending a few hours enjoying the day and drinking tea on fine bone china.
as a social marketer, i think of how to reach the masses via word-of-mouth. whether this was intended to drum up conversation or hosted merely for fun, it made me take a step back. perhaps i should take my strategy back to basics.

clinging desperately to the last days of summer, i had to break out my spring/summer burberry dress one last time. i paired it with my favorite yellow blazer and finished the look with my black patent leather sandals. in my mind, this outfit successfully straddled the two seasons.
anywho, you might be wondering about the cheese grill.. well this was taken during my team’s outing at shake shack. and you know how i feel about my amazing team. oh, and color blocking, too

nantucket in nyc
May 22nd, 2011 by RuthMy dear friend Rosemary, brought in her 28th birthday with a “Nantuck in NYC” party on the rooftop of her East Village apartment. To complement the popped collars, boat shoes, Lilly Pulitzer and madras prints I wore a paisley print J.Crew dress, which has pockets, obvs. Paired with strands of J.Crew pearls, a green linen blazer, and a white Banana Republic bag made of luscious leather, I was ready to paint the town red.
Dress: J.Crew
Linen Blazer: Zara
Flats: J.Crew

March 7th, 2011 by RuthEven though I work in beauty, I’m not one to get excited by beauty products. So when I come across something that I really like, I feel compelled to share. For those of you who know me, I have extremely fine, thin hair. Resistant to hot rollers, curlers, irons, etc., my hair is destined to remain limp and lifeless. That is until I came across Phytovolume Actif Maximizing Volume Spray.
Spraying a few spritzes at the root of my hair, I flip my head over and take the blow dryer and small rounded bristle brush and work volume and texture into my hair. According to Sephora, “Nasturnium boosts at the root while keratin amino acids and wheat proteins thicken the diameter of each hair fiber.” Whatever it is, these natural ingredients keep my hair date-ready all day long.
Paraben-, sulfate-, petrochemicals- and synthetic dye- free, I am true fan of this fantastic product.
Available in 4.2oz and 6.7oz bottles, Phytovolume can be yours for $28 and $35, respectively.

February 18th, 2011 by RuthThe red door.
October 21st, 2010 by RuthThe vibrancy of the red door against the distressed green Banana Republic dress sweeps me away to an afternoon in the country. I’m eating a fluffy egg white omelet with fresh goat cheese and herbs from Mario Batali’s Eataly. The antique aesthetic of the door tricks me into thinking the door opens to a country kitchen furnished with raw wood chairs and an over sized table with claw feet; I’m eating my brunch off of heavy ceramic white dishware ala Christiane Lemieux Shabby Chic; drinking my mimosa from a Mason jar; all while the occasional waft of fresh lavender drifts through my nose, reinvigorating my senses.
Dress: Banana Republic (CHEAP)
Belt: Express – $20
Boots: J.Crew (above budget!)
Ring: Vintage ala Mom’s jewelry box
