Having a childhood smack in the middle of the Dynasty-obsessed 80s made me appreciate the big in life. Jewelry. Bags. Not so much the hair, but I can still appreciate the overdone glamour of the show. Perhaps this is where my obsession with sequins comes from?
While it’s been over 20 years since the show last aired, its impact on the fashion world still resonates. And I’m not alone in this theory, now that famed jewelry designer Alexis Bittar cast Joan Collins as the face of his current ad campaign. When asked for the inspiration behind approaching her, the designer puts it simply by saying “…she deserves credit (and hasn’t received it) for much of the 80s fashion that’s mimicked today. When I think ‘Opulence’, I think ‘Joan Collins’ and ‘Dynasty’.”.
