midnight snack.

January 27th, 2012 by Ruth

after a trying work week, i organized a team potluck of sweets and liquor to celebrate the weekend. while strolling the aisles of morton’s, i came across simply organic banana bread mix and bingo, i decided this was the perfect opportunity to use my frozen browned bananas and remainder ghiradelli chocolate chips.

so after i get home from a total body conditioning class and an intense spin, i muster up the energy to not only prepare dinner but to bake the treats. to make the bars gooey, i added 3 browned bananas instead of 2, and undercooked them by about 2 minutes. fresh out the oven, my boyfriend and i topped the dish with ciao bella mint leaf chip gelato. buonissimo!

now.

October 27th, 2011 by Ruth

lately, i’ve been catching stunning sunrises from the comfort of my home. i’m on a constant quest to make each moment count so when i saw this view, i had to climb up my fire escape and shoot the above picture from my roof. i stood up there and took it all in. breathed in the air. there’s just something exhilarating about getting up with the birds. it makes me feel refreshed, energized and motivated. as corny as it sounds, it was a carpe diem type of moment and it reminded me that there’s no time like the present. and the time is now.

back to basics.

what a brilliant way to reach the tastemakers via influencer street crowds. ralph lauren brings tweed, luggage colored oxfords, bowties + newsboy caps to the forefront of fashion by dressing 300 people in 1930′s/1940′s styled clothing. bike riding through various nyc neighborhoods, they drew attention on their tweed run as they were visually representing one specific era.

take a look at bill cunningham’s “natty” ny times shots + voice-over video [Bill Cunningham\'s Natty] to see how they made an impact by simply getting together and spending a few hours enjoying the day and drinking tea on fine bone china.

as a social marketer, i think of how to reach the masses via word-of-mouth. whether this was intended to drum up conversation or hosted merely for fun, it made me take a step back. perhaps i should take my strategy back to basics.

firsts.

October 17th, 2011 by Ruth

when i first met krissy and cat, i realized my life would never be the same. with these two, i’ve experienced all THE milestones and most momentous occasions that shaped our lives and the people we are today.

krissy and i met when were 18 at the rutgers entrance exam. we were roommates through college, we interned together at rolling stone, majored together cause we had no clue what else to do, studied abroad together in florence, lived together in nyc, experienced first jobs/careers together, i was there when her oldest sister got engaged and even share my birthday with her nephew.

while catherine and i met our freshman year of college (she doesn’t remember this but i do:)), a former mutual friend of ours brought us together our senior year of college when we lived together at 60 ray street in new brunswick. our roommate status gave us the opportunity to experience a lot of “togethers”. together, we interned in nyc, burned pots + pans, sprayed the fire extinguisher over our backyard, experienced first break-ups, the trials + tribulations of first jobs in our careers, and first bachelorette parties to name a few.

i was there when they met their fiancees. and now i’m here when they got engaged.

during these “firsts”, we’ve laughed, cried, danced, talked, smiled, drank copious amounts of wine, but most of all, we held hands. this constant connection has created a bond that will allow us to experience more firsts. but at this point, i think the firsts equivocate to life.

congratulations, krissy + cat. all my love to you and your families. xo

a hole in one.

August 1st, 2011 by Ruth

After venturing to the Lower East Side to scope out the Hester Street Fair, Robin, Chris and I stopped by the infamous Doughnut Plant. Specializing in artisan yeast doughnuts, cake doughnuts, square, and jelly, we indulged in Lavender Flower, Peanut Butter + Jelly filled, Coconut Glaze, Blueberry, Carrot Cake, and Cinnamon Buns. Made with all natural ingredients, no trans fats, preservatives, artificial flavoring or eggs, these treats are a great way to spend some extra calories.

Bigger, puffier, and made from scratch, these doughnuts are handmade from the fresh fruit glazes to the in-house toasted nuts. The favorites in our box? The Peanut Butter + Jelly filled, Lavender Flower and Carrot Cake. While I usually go for a chocolate chip cookie to satiate my sweet tooth, the Doughnut Plant  scored a hole in one, giving doughnuts a special place in my heart.

$35 + a dream.

July 6th, 2011 by Ruth

In a city with eternal blazing lights and a pulse a cheetah couldn’t keep up with, it’s imperative to find the time to relax. Lately, I’ve been spending much of my time in the Brooklyn Bridge Park. Newly renovated, clean seating and a beautiful lawn provide the perfect atmosphere to recuperate. It’s been a goal of mine to learn to take good night pictures and thanks to a special someone, I’m finally learning the ropes. These images were taken under the Brooklyn Bridge with a Canon EF 16-35mm/ f/2.8L autofocus lens, which was rented for under $40 for an entire weekend. The ultra wide angle, internal focusing and camera tweaks helps bring lively New York City to life. Thirty five dollars and a goal gave me quality images I hope to one day print on canvas and hang as art. Hope you like them!

white everything.

June 27th, 2011 by Ruth

After an incredible cultural experience at Bonnaroo and some time off from blogging, I feel inspired although, I know,  you wouldn’t be able to tell from my choice in clothing. For whatever reason, I find myself wearing all white, all the time. Anyways, my go-to jeans are my white straight-leg Zara’s. I love this cozy summer white sweater from Gap, which I got on sale for $30. I scored this scarf from a vintage store in the East Village and my INC wedges on sale from Macys. I guess my MAC Carthage lips and Essie toes can represent my inspiration. More TK.
