While plucking through my closet last night, it struck me that I don’t own a single neutral bag. I’ve got pinks, purples, reds, and even a few sequins displayed along my closet’s top shelf, but as far as basics go, it seems like I’m drawn to the colors of the rainbow. And while there’s nothing wrong with colorful accessories, I need to tone it down just a tad, and have been on the hunt for a classic-meets-charming bag all morning. Since it’s rare that I actually buy any new bags, I’m looking for one that’s well-constructed and will last for many years down the road without looking like it’s been worn out. Below are my top contenders.

{Grommet Parlour Hobo, J.Crew, $298.00}
I adore the grommets on this classically-shaped bag from J.Crew. It adds that oh-so-essential touch of whimsy I’m after.

{Farrah Ruched Messenger Bag, 12th St. by Cynthia Vincent, $395.00}
This bag from Cynthia Vincent’s 12th St. line will be roomy enough to tote all my essentials, with pockets aplenty to keep me organized.

{Nikki Hobo, Rebecca Minkoff, $595.00}
By far the most expensive of the three, I can’t help but love this hobo’s unstructured-but-structured appeal.
