Keeping a sunny state of mind.

February 10th, 2010 by Catherine

As I type, I’m nervously glancing out the window at the ever-accumulating snow falling outside my window. With no signs of it letting up, I’m plotting an escape once the snow melts. Where to, you ask? To the hotel in California that seems to be on everyone’s mind. Emily from Cupcakes & Cashmere described the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs as having a “hip, retro vibe with a black and white photo booth in the lobby, shampoo that smelled of California tangelos and hammocks that lined the pool.”. Niki from World In A Paper Cup was also blown away, saying “The little details were incredible, the food was to die for, and the decor was uber chic yet utilitarian at the same time….plus they had alcoholic snowcones!”. Check out their full reviews here and here.

With these glowing reviews in mind, there’s bound to be coincidental meaning behind the perfectly timed travel alert I received this morning. For Travelzoo subscribers only, the hotel has slashed prices on their Standard King rooms starting now through June 8th to $79.00 a night.

Perks from staying at this hotel include:

  • Free bike rentals
  • Communal fireplaces
  • Hammocks alongside the pool
  • Free Wi-Fi (but who would want to spend the day online when you’re in Palm Springs?)

So just as soon as the snow melts, I’m going to try and convince the man in my life to whisk me away to thaw out.

Click here for more information on how to book your own Ace escape. If it’s any incentive, I heard they serve alcoholic sno cones, which would sound appetizing on any other non-snowy day.

Daily Diamond: Loeffler Randall Spring Picks

February 10th, 2010 by Catherine

Warm weather is definitely on my mind, since it’s simply nowhere in sight here on the snowy east coast. This is probably why I can’t stop looking at spring designs from brands worldwide. Loeffler Randall‘s new spring items have me warmed up with the thought of impeccable style to come.

{Drawstring Dress, $295.00}

I’d wear this dress now with thick black tights, flat boots and a boyfriend blazer to fight the chill and to add just a touch of toughness to an otherwise sweet dress.

I can just imagine frolicking about on the first warm evening of the year in these. What’s not to like about yellow shoes?

{Idris Navajo Sandal, $375.00}

I want nothing more than to wear these with baggy boyfriend jeans, cuffed up to expose the pastel pattern.

Are you afraid of the dark?

February 10th, 2010 by Catherine

Out of all my irrational fears, the dark is surprisingly not one of them. Gremlins, on the other hand, terrify me, but that’s a story for another day. If I were to be afraid of the dark, I would absolutely stock the dark nooks of my home with these darling sun jars. Available in an array of colors, they cast such a flattering glow in any room, light and dark alike. And if my fear were to ever subside, I would also cluster them on my table outside on summer nights.
