Last weekend a bunch of our friends went to Atlantic City, New Jersey to celebrate Catherine’s birthday. After a few drinks at our suite in the Borgata, we were ready to paint the town red. I was pleasantly surprised when Catherine’s boyfriend showed up wearing a driving cap. Ever the sharp dresser, he looked smooth, put together, and right on trend.
To my surprise, today’s David Colman article in The New York Times, lets us know that the driving cap is the new “it” accessory. Shifting gears from the obsession with the fedora, the trend continues to lean towards traditional American fashion and many men are drawn to the driving cap.
As mentioned in the article, ”the fabric must accommodate your head roughly from the base of the skull to your hairline without pulling or puckering, and it must be stitched (not snapped) to the visor clear across the front.” He warns us that it can’t be too wide on top and should be made with only three panels.
A perfect present for the man in your life, head over to Paul Stuart to snag the driving cap in any classic fabric. If you’re not in the tri-state area, I’m sure your local store that carries fine men’s apparel will accommodate your needs.
