With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I am teeming with excitement to make real cranberry sauce. A tradition of mine, I enjoy the fresh taste of real cranberries that pop in my mouth in a smooth natural sauce of orange and cranberry juice.

Well preferred over the canned stuff, the tart-sweet Orange Cranberry Sauce from Emeril Lagasse happens to be my favorite.

According to the New York Times, there is a resurrgence in late 19th century fashion. The return of tweed vests, slim trousers, hunting boots, and big brass buttoned military jackets will have another go down the realway. Blurring the lines between dapper and pretention, structured wool, tweed and houndstooth garb are reappearing.

Above, find a few of my favorite splurges. Enjoy!

You’ve got to give a little.

Coalition for the Homeless

Coalition for the Homeless

Our dear friend Alexis Farah, a fellow editor at the incredibly informative Women’s Health magazine, is heavily involved with the Coalition for the Homeless. Just recently, she educated us on New York City’s new record for homelessness. According to the Coalition, more than 36,000 people – including 15,000 children – will sleep in emergency shelters tonight! With the downturn of the economy, the homeless need our help now more than ever.

Nothing’s chic-er than giving back to a community in need. On Saturday, December 12, the Coalition for the Homeless volunteers are running a clothing drive at St. Bart’s Church located at 51st Street between Lexington and Park Avenues (side entrance) from 12noon t0 5:00pm. They are collecting new and gently used hats, gloves, scarves and blankets at the Manhattan drop-off site. The donations are distributed nightly at the mobile soup kitchen that feeds 1,000 homeless and low-income individuals and families throughout Manhattan and the Bronx.

As the nation’s oldest advocacy and direct service organization helping homeless men, women and children, you can feel confident that your donations are getting to those who need it most.

So go ahead, give a little and donate to the Coalition or to your local community.

Hand it to Aveeno.

Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream, Drugstore.com, $7

Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream, Drugstore.com, $7

I’ve been on the hunt for a hand cream that gives you the same feeling you have after wearing a moisturizing night glove or that straight-from-the-manicurist’s desk feeling. After months on the search, I finally found one worthy of my hands – Aveeno’s Intense Relief Hand Cream!

Formulated with natural oatmeal and rich emollients to heal dry skin, this hand cream forms a protective glove to fight the elements. Seriously lasting through one to two hand washes (no more than that in my experience), this fast-absorbing hand cream is fragrance free and leaves your hands perpetually soft and smooth.

While Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream and other Aveeno products are available at many food, drug, mass, club, and specialty stores across the country, I tend to purchase mine at Drugstore.com as it’s usually about $1 cheaper and I can use my points for purchase.
