Quick and easy apple crisp

Quick and easy apple crisp

Every month, we have a girl’s night at a friend’s home to not only catch up with each other, but also cut down on the cost of dining out all the time. We’re all responsible for bringing something to the table and the other night I tried an apple crisp that was out of this world!

This dish had all the characteristics of a perfect crisp – the apples were sweet and crisp, and the topping had a great crunchy consistency. When paired with natural vanilla ice cream, it’s not only an affordable treat, but its taste was simple and delicious, too. Get the recipe after the jump.

The sale’s the limit!

November 17th, 2009 by Catherine

No, this isn’t a joke! The folks at Saks must have heard our prayers (or are stepping in for Santa’s elves) because they’ve marked down select items by 50% in their FashionFix section of the website. With clothing and accessories from Anya Hindmarch, Alice + Olivia, Badgley Mishcka, and Theory available at way-below-normal prices, the deals made me stagger just a bit. Quantities and sizes are limited, so if you’re in need of a few holiday getups, now’s the time to shop! But hurry – the sale ends Wednesday the 18th (tomorrow!) at noon, if they don’t sell out of everything before then.

Daily Diamond: Femme Fekkai Sensuelle Collection

November 17th, 2009 by Catherine

Probably one of my favorite things about being a girl is the fun we get to have with fragrance. Whether it’s a scented body cream or perfume, I, like many of my close friends, don’t feel right without wearing some sort of scent each day. And while I’ve got my favorites for daytime, and other options for nights out, I’ve always loved the idea of incorporating fragrance into my haircare routine. I just think it’s so much more romantic and lovely to lightly waft fragrance as you move about, versus overdosing on scent on your skin.

That brings me to the last time you seriously went Zoe-style bananas over a shampoo and conditioner combo. Are you a lather/rinse/repeat kind of shower-er, or do you prefer to make the experience a luxury? Either way, you’ll flip for the new collection from king-of-hair, Frederic Fekkai. His Femme Fekkai Sensuelle Collection was created to offer a new, modern way of wearing fragrance, while maintaining hair’s optimum health. Each of the four products (Shampoo, Conditioner, Eau de Parfum, and Hairspray) is blended with mandarin, bergamot, jasmine, and fleur d’oranger for a scent that’s over-the-top incredible. And while the collection is quite pricey, it’s an occasional luxury I’m willing to splurge on.

Available for a limited time this holiday season, all products can be purchased here.

With Thanksgiving just about a week away, we’re sure that by now you’ve made travel plans for the day. But just in case you’ve left it to the very last minute, we’ve got a few deals that might make it easier (and cheaper) for you to get to that pumpkin pie. Experts agree that traveling on the day of any holiday guarantees cheaper tickets (if you’re flying or taking the train) and less traffic on the roads, should you choose to drive. Whatever your mode of transportation, there are ways of saving money. Check out a few we’ve found, after the jump! (more…)

Pure volume.

L'Oreal EverPure Volume

L'Oreal EverPure Volume, Drugstore.com, $7

Don’t you hate it when you spend a bundle on coloring your hair and it fades a week or two later? Time to switch shampoos. 100% sulfate-free and vegan in its makeup, L’Oreal’s EverPure is devoid of harsh stripping chemicals, salts, sulfates, and surfactants that can strip and dull your hair. After 32 washes, hair color remains vibrant, which is more than I can say about some other shampoos out there. Delivering a rich lather uncommon to sulfate-free shampoos, the rosemary juniper scent creates a spa-like experience by invigorating the senses.

Infusing flat lifeless hair with body and volume, this system is perfect for those with color-treated hair or for people like me who find it difficult to build texture into baby fine hair.

After blow drying my hair with a round brush, I felt a clean, natural volume starting from my roots and lifting to the tips of my hair. Wash after wash, I continue to experience the same results!
