There are only a handful of things that would pull me out of bed at 5:30 on a Saturday morning, and as I learned on Saturday, shopping a limited-time-only, super-in-demand collection from Jimmy Choo at H&M is one of them. Curious about how I fared? Read on dear Chic Thrills readers, read on. By the time I arrived at the 34th Street store in Manhattan, the line was already 135 people long. A few had camped out overnight, while most of the other earlybirds had made it just in time to watch the sun rise. And while daylight did indeed come for everyone, it also brought with it downpours and misty rain for much of my 2 hour wait to get inside. But despite cloudy skies, the mood remained upbeat for the most part. The women I spoke to were mainly after the shoes, but were horrified to learn our little spot on the block wouldn’t gain access to the accessories until 12:15! To cut down on chaos within the accessories section, the staff had passed out color-coded wristbands to the first 160 people in the line, each color designating 10-minute increments women could access the shoes and purses. With the store not opening until 10 that morning, most of the women had their wait cut out for them.
Throughout my time on line, the H&M staff were nothing but courteous, informative and super helpful, even passing around Krispee Kreme donuts at one stage, and thanking us for waiting. It definitely made the wait a little easier, knowing they appreciated our time.
And when 10:00 finally rolled around, the mayhem ensued. Clothing racks were devoured by frenzied females, with leather jackets and sequined cardigans snatched up within 5 minutes of me entering the store. Shoppers went especially mad for this Sequin Top and the Blue Suede Dress, but truth be told, every piece was worth fighting a little bit for.
When all was said and done, the complete clothing collection was sold out in ten minutes. I managed to score three pieces I’m gaga for – the Sequin Top, an Embroidered T-Shirt and a Beaded Dress, all pictured below.
Tell us – did you get a chance to shop the collection? What was your experience like? Report back with any chaos you might have seen!
