Turkey for me. Turkey for you.

November 11th, 2009 by Catherine

November is a big deal in my life. Not only is it my birthday month, but it also sparks the start of the most festive season of the year. Don’t get me wrong – I love me some summer, but there’s something about the holiday parties, sparkling lights, and general merriment of the late fall that warms me up from head to toe. Extra glasses of champagne don’t hurt, either.

So until we get to my second favorite day in November, check out my pick below for the best Thanksgiving side dish. My dad has made these for as long as I can remember, and they’re hands down the biggest hit every holiday. Check out the top-secret (and truly, truly basic) recipe below! (more…)

Daily Diamond: House of Harlow Medallion Locket

House of Harlow Medallion Locket Necklace, $65.00

House of Harlow Medallion Locket Necklace, $65.00

We’ve mentioned in the past how much we love Nicole Richie’s House of Harlow line, and we’ve decided to give it one last shout-out before we go back to privately worshipping Nicole’s incredible sense of personal style. She’s one of the few celebs who shuts it down every single time we see her, without ever looking overly styled. Jealous? Us? Why, yes. We are.

Her House of Harlow collection has allowed us to steal pieces of her signature look with affordable accessories we’ve grown to deeply love. My personal favorite is this necklace I broke down and bought earlier this week. Its chain is super long at 38″, and the pendant itself is slightly oversized at 1.75″. In short, it’s a sassy twist on your traditional locket. And because it’s a style staple, the necklace is a wise purchase for anyone in love with the simplicity and sweetness of lockets.

Restored style.

As fans of the Restoration Hardware brand can attest, there’s long been a terrific blend of the unique and traditional within the store. Where else can you find vintage-inspired board games alongside understated lighting fixtures? Bottom line, if you’re looking for something for your home, but you’re not quite sure what you need, you’ll probably find it within the store.

Cashmere Souffle Scar, $79.00

Cashmere Souffle Scarf, $79.00

The company is expanding even further with the launch of their new Cashmere Souffle Scarves. Available in an array of colors (my personal favorite is the goes-with-anything silver sage), they’re super lightweight but oddly cozy and warm at the same time. They’re also perfect for layering up against winter chills, while adding comfort and a hint of glamour to whatever you’re wearing. The scarves are on sale now for $79, which, if you ask me, is money well spent. This is one scarf that you’ll wear for years to come.

S.M.S. – Save My Skin!

November 11th, 2009 by Catherine

Something’s up with my eyes and I can’t possibly blame allergies with the lack of anything irritating in our East Coast air. The skin surrounding my eyes has suddenly become incredibly angry, which is surprising because I haven’t tried anything new, nor have I changed anything about my routine. Has this happened to any of you Chic Thrills readers?

Dove Deep Moisture Lotion, $6.99

Dove Deep Moisture Facial Lotion, $6.99

I’ve quit using my eye cream for now in hopes that the problem will fix itself without making a trip to the dermatologist. Instead, I’ve pared down my routine, eliminating toner and eye treatments, and am instead just using my Dove Deep Moisture Facial Lotion sparingly around my eyes. The product is super gentle, so I’m not concerned about irritating the sensitive skin around my eyes. For now, it’s working just fine as a replacement, but I’m most comfortable in my go-to routine. Let’s hope I get better soon!

I’m still curious to know if anyone has had this problem before! I’m tempted to believe it’s the change in season that’s to blame, but it’s still annoying to be rubbing my eyes all day long. Thanks for all your insight!
