In the clear.

November 9th, 2009 by Catherine

As common as breakouts are for most people (and to you lucky ducks who never break out – remember how fortunate you are!), there’s little comfort in knowing you’re not alone. I’ve long suffered from stress-induced pimples around my chin and have fought for years to keep them at bay, trying everything I could to stop myself from breaking out, spending an absolute fortune on treatments and cleansers in the process of finding a solution to my problem.

prod_74And then I came across a stellar drugstore find from Johnson & Johnson’s Clean & Clear advantage line. I tried it out of total desperation, rationalizing that another $6 spent on a facial cleanser wouldn’t break my bank if I discovered a cure for my skin. And a cure is exactly what I found. Their 3-in-1 foaming acne wash is made with 2% salicylic acid, a powerhouse ingredient in the fight against zits, and within a single week of twice-daily use, I noticed a dramatic improvement in my skin. My pimples quit popping up, and for the first time in my life, someone complimented me on my skin. Do you know how huge that is when I’ve spent most of my teens and 20s trying to cover up my skin?

Beyond its visible effects, I’m also thrilled with the price. At $8.50 it’s a total steal when compared with the hundreds I’ve spent in the past. Now I just lather up twice a day, and I stay within the clear! Available at drugstores nationwide.

Daily Diamond: Stella McCartney for GapKids.

November 9th, 2009 by Ruth

Come on, Stella! Work with us grown-ups, too!

The blogosphere was buzzing in early June with the news that Stella McCartney had partnered with Gap to bring consumers a fashionable savvy line for kids.

Wishing I could squeeze into a little girl’s size 5, I was drooling over each outfit as I devoured the online lookbook. Clearly McCartney, the children’s line exudes the calm colors and stylish comfort she’s notorious for. Reminiscent of a friend’s shirt from grade school, the line weaves looks from the late 80′s and early 90′s into each piece.

The question now is – when will Miss McCartney bring a wallet friendly line for the adult consumer to market?

Warm and Cozy Spiked Apple Cider

November 9th, 2009 by Ruth

Yum!

Although hot chocolate is comforting on a cold day, nothing warms the spirit like Spiked Apple Cider. Make the Cider from scratch with hand-picked apples from your weekend at the orchard or scoop up your favorite brand at your local farmer’s market or grocer. For years, I used to spike the cider with rum, however I recently fell in favor with a version created by Rachael Ray, which uses brandy.

Sip on the cider with delicious treats such as pumpkin pie and overnight monkey bread. Get the full recipe after the jump!

Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head…

Picture 1Out here on the East Coast, we’ve been having a lot of rain. So much so that I have started to always carry an umbrella with me. It turns out, umbrellas can be just as much of an accessory as boots or bracelets.  Lucky for all of us, there is Umbrellas.net, an easy-to-use site with plenty of moderately-priced choices ranging from hip and funky to classic and lacy.

And when you’re so over your umbrella, donate it to the peeps behind Recycling Zychal, the creator of the “Upcycled Umbrella Rain Coat” for pets and the “Upcycled Umbrella Rain Hood” for humans. The products found on the Recycling Zychal shop are created from recycled umbrellas. Even better? For every broken umbrella you donate Zychael will be donating $1 to the Morris Animal Refuge in Philadelphia for each broken umbrella donated.
