Squeaky Clean.

soap

Stirred by hand, poured into wooden molds, cured and aged into a mild PH balanced bar, Delores Harris of Daisy May Natural Soap has created pure luxury in her handcrafted 4 oz bars of soap.

Made with high quality pure lye, vegetable shortening, oils, water and natural scents, the soaps are available in fruity florals and soothing spicy herbals. Unlike commercial soaps, these soaps leave my skin incredibly soft and fresh with no film. Don’t believe me? Ask my boyfriend. He keeps asking why my skin is so soft and consistently comments on the pleasant scent.

While you may not have access to the J.J. Byrne weekend farmer’s market, you can find a local soap vendor at Handcrafted Soap Makers Guild Inc. or Etsy. Go ahead, get out there and support true artisans and local businesses.

Daily Diamond: Julie Hewett Cheekie

September 23rd, 2009 by Catherine

jhla_cheekie_destinyIn an effort to pair down my makeup bag, I’ve been on a hunt for products that work overtime on both my lips and cheeks. Sounds simple enough, but it’s harder than you’d expect to find a product that looks flattering enough to give me a warm glow, but still give good gloss on my lips. After much experimenting, I finally found a winner from makeup artist extraordinaire Julie Hewett. Her Cheekie Cheek & Lip Shine is super natural-looking, but amps up my just-worked-out flush without overdoing the color. And it amazingly feels moist on my lips but doesn’t feel slick on my cheeks. I’ve only used the product for a couple of weeks, but I’m already looking forward to a long-term relationship ahead.

Julie Hewett’s Cheekie is available here and at specialty boutiques nationwide for $24.

Make it an accessory with a whole lot of impact. This necklace from J.Crew is simply timeless and will make quite the statement with anything from fancy-pants dresses to jeans and a tank. When money is tight and you have events aplenty, the easiest way to spice up existing options is with fun accessories. At $128, this particular option is a little pricey, but will transcend trends for years to come.

The Ultimate Coupon

September 23rd, 2009 by Ruth

logoMy mother, a Chic lady herself, instilled in me the power of a coupon at a young age. I have fond memories of snipping away coupons from the newspaper at the kitchen table on Sunday mornings, astonished that we were savvy enough to get the “Buy One Get One Free Breyer’s Ice Cream” special or “20% off the new Ralph Lauren comforter set.” No longer a “little girl,” my love for coupons remains and has been taken to the next level.

I flipped after learning about Groupon, a site offering daily deals for massages, dance classes, wine tours (you name it, they got it) in major cities across the country. Each day Groupon features something cool to do at an unbeatable price. If enough people join on that day, the deal is yours. (FYI: I haven’t had any trouble securing deals).  Sign up for the daily email alerts, and you’ll never miss out on a fabulous (well-spent!) life.
