Daily Diamond: Page Sargisson jewelry

August 11th, 2009 by Catherine

imagesI’ve never really been into run-of-the-mill baubles, consistently favoring flea market finds and underground designers to Tiffany and the like. The more whimsy, in my humble opinion, the better.

I first learned about Page Sargisson’s designs about three years ago and have been addicted to the collection’s charm ever since. Known for repurposing vintage items and reviving them into items so very now, all her gold and silver pieces are handcrafted using an Indian wood block to create incredible, unique texture to each. The balanced blend of charm and whimsy suit my taste just fine and work well on anyone, anywhere.

Gone Fishing

American Glassware

I have an affinity for glassware and will stop at nothing to find the most inviting, warming and stylish products. While caught in a thunderstorm, I sought shelter in well-known Gramercy Park  shop, Fishs Eddy. This little gem holds more than cheap thrills; their affordable home products embody diner, dives and drive-through history yet they are chic and will leave your guests nothing but impressed. Brilliant in color, their American hand pressed glassware is fully textured and full of beautiful shape. With these affordably priced finds, beauty and significance is seemlessly woven into your home all without busting the budget.

Lash out.

August 11th, 2009 by Catherine

I have this friend named Krissy who, for as long as I can remember, has had these insanely long, thick eyelashes. If you didn’t know her very well, you’d swear she gets extensions but the truth is, she was just born super lucky. Which, for the record, doesn’t make me any less jealous.

The good news for those of us with less-than-lush lashes is that the beauty market has recently been inundated with a slew of new products, all promising a lush-er lashline in a few short weeks. Sounds great, but they’re also pretty darn expensive. Most are priced around $100, while others, like Latisse, costs about $120 per box (which last about a month), with full results promised in four months. That’s a lot of dough for your lashes, don’t you think? Women have raved about the product ever since it hit doctors’ shelves, but we here at Chic Thrills don’t believe spending that much money is worth it in the long run.

DermaLashTo get the same results at a fraction of the cost, I’ve been using a product by DermaQuest Skin Therapy called DermaLash. Applied to the lashline before bed, much like you would it’s pricey competitor Latisse, the thin (and completely safe-for-your-eyes) gel works to keep your lashes in their anagen phase (fancy talk for the stage when hair grows), thus promoting a denser lashline. Confused? Don’t be. Simply use the gel every night before bed to see the results for yourself, and leave the science-y stuff to the DermaQuest folks.

Get it for yourself here and try not to break too many hearts batting your newly long lashes.

An 80s revival!

August 11th, 2009 by Catherine

As a child of the 80s, I vividly remember one of my mom’s favorite go-to outfits, a lemon yellow jumpsuit. I grew up dreaming of wearing it myself, but the trend faded too quickly for me to jump on the jumpsuit bandwagon. I also happen to be a towering 10 inches taller than my mother, but whatever.

This backstory is all relevant now that jumpsuits are again the go-to outfit for the dog days of summer. Simple and chic, they’re great for both day and night with a simple accessories change in between. I’ve been itching to get my hands on one so I can finally live the dream, and came across two great options, one from Helmut Lang (that costs an arm and a leg and my firstborn combined) and the other from Alloy.com, once regarded as a skater-only destination (oh, and also the catalog to shop for My So-Called Life-inspired flannel gear). Not the case anymore! It’s chock full of stylish dresses and tops that scream sophistication, not Jordan Catalano cast-offs.

My favorite option is still the one from Alloy. Which one do you prefer?
