Simple stunner.

There are so many reasons why I love warmer weather. For one, my skin just looks better with a little extra moisture in the air. Living just get simpler with easy outdoor barbecues and cocktail parties. I also love how effortlessly chic clothes are. There’s no need to layer, no need for thick sweaters and no need for bundling up against arctic air.

Many a time have I declared that I adore dresses, but this one in particular makes my heart beat a little faster. Calvin Klein just made summer days and nights a little more chic with this new (and under $100!) one shoulder cotton stretch dress. The strategically-placed pleating flatters any body shape (hurrah! No more shapewear!) and has pockets which, in my opinon, instantly make any outfit so much more adorable.

Summer can’t last long enough, can it?

Rock out.

Anyone who’s been lucky enough to eat at any one of Nobu’s 15 locations can attest to the restaurant’s culinary prowess. The food is out of this world and while I’m careful not to dine out all that often, Nobu might actually be one place that I’d break the bank for.

One dish in particular, their Rock Shrimp Tempura, inspires love songs. It’s like a requiem in your mouth, a bona fide religious experience, heaven on earth. I first tried it 10 years ago and wondered if the chef responsible for such a dish was human – the dish is that incredible.

But enough gushing. Take it from me – serve this dish cautiously, as it may cause unsuspecting folks to fall head over heels in love with you. Enjoy!

Peek into the pages of September’s Vogue.

August 6th, 2009 by Catherine

I’ve long been obsessed with magazines, ever since I picked up my very first copies of YM and Seventeen at the tender age of 11. I used to rip out pages and tack them on my bedroom wall, dreaming of a day when I could be a part of making these magazines happen. I followed that dream through college during various internships (which I still regard as my very favorite jobs, despite being unpaid), and while I never pursued a career as an editor, the behind-the-scenes world still fascinates me to this day.

Which is why I’m chomping at the bit to go see  R.J. Cutler’s documentary, The September Issue. Having never granted formal personal interviews with the media in the past, Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor-in-chief and constant target of media scrutiny, allows cameras to take a peek at how her September issue comes about. The trailer alone is enough to keep me up at night, dreaming of being a fly on those Condé walls…

DIY Beauty.

August 6th, 2009 by Catherine

p42787_heroIn my house, most DIY projects are reserved for true experts. I’ve managed to break pipes, dent walls and drop things out of windows any time I’ve attempted to conquer home improvement on my own. And it doesn’t end there. My father once fell through a hole in our deck (long story, but it involved a dying tree) and broke his arm. A year later, he shattered his car’s windshield transporting blinds from Home Depot to our house. We have a terrible track record, which was why I was so nervous to try a facial peel at home.

This one particular DIY project, however, had a happy ending for us all. No broken anything, no trips to the hospital, just fresh, glow-y skin for a full week!

Skincare experts agree that occasional facial peels can work magic on dull, clogged skin. Often pricey and sometimes a little painful, I’ve remained on the fence about the need for peels until I learned about a simple product from MD Skincare. This two-step product called the Alpha-Beta Daily Face Peel is easy-peasy to use and helps to promote skin’s firmness, tone and texture without the need of professional intervention.

Simply swipe the pre-soaked pad in Step 1 on clean, dry skin and allow its potent ingredients about two minutes to get to work, sloughing off dead skin cells and encouraging cell turnover. After a couple of painless minutes, swipe Step 2′s pad over your face to neutralize the first solution. Massage in your choice of sunscreen and you’re good to go!

No home improvement experts needed.
