Casinos, perfumes and clumsy broads.

Years ago, a friend of mine had a super fancy birthday party at The Borgata in Atlantic City, NJ. I arrived later than our group and rushed about our suite to get ready for dinner. In the process, I managed to shatter a recently-purchased (read: full and new) bottle of my favorite perfume on the bathroom’s marble floor. “Awesome,” I remember thinking as I carefully scooped up glass and mopped up my precious scent. “I’m never taking perfume anywhere again.”

Scent makers must have heard (or smelled my perfume from miles and miles away in that tiny bathroom…) my gripes, because lately, scents are cropping up in much more convenient packages. I’ve never been able to look at Trish McEvoy’s #11 White Iris Eau de Parfum the same way again, but have found a new favorite from indie skincare brand Juara. Known mostly to those in-the-know, the Indonesian brand produces some of the finest natural products available to date and I happen to be hooked on one in particular.

Their Tiare Jasmine Perfume Oil is unlike any other fragrance I’ve ever smelled in the best way possible. It’s light, smells like your favorite vacation and lasts a remarkably long time. Available in a 0.35 ounce roller ball, the oil is completely free of parabens, artificial colorants, alcohol and petroleum, making it a highly-concentrated blend of natural oils.

Take my word – this is one fragrance that will stand the test of time (and particularly clumsy owners).

Rock with you.

I’ve always preferred quirky jewelry to run-of-the-mill accessories. There’s just something about wearing pieces that few people have that makes me feel just a dash more chic.

I adore the pieces designed by Kimberly McDonald. Formerly known as ROCKRAS, the line is yoga-inspired and a marriage between color and gem stones. Each piece is carefully designed with geodes and other natural stones and while I love looking at and fantasizing about the collections, I could never in a million years justify spending the thousands of dollars each piece costs.

I came across this stunning necklace from Club Monaco and nearly jumped for joy! The Drusy Necklace, a delicate blend of stones on a gold chain, is the perfect alternative to those who can’t meet the monetary requirements of Kimberly McDonald’s pieces. At $129, it’s a delightful splurge that won’t break the bank!

Italian love affair.

In other “get-to-my-heart-through-my-stomach” news, who doesn’t love a heaping bowl of pasta on days both good and bad alike? Carbs are my Xanax. I just need a few bites and whatever the day has dealt me seems to wash away. Magic.

One of my favorite ways to prep dinner is to simply toss together a box of cooked whole-wheat pasta, a pint of roasted cherry tomatoes, a drizzle of olive oil, teeny tiny balls of mozzarella with fresh basil. The whole meal costs less than $20 and serves 4.

Feeling a little more adventurous? Try this stellar dish from Maggiano’s, one of my favorite Italian chains. Mangia!

showercurtain

Few people give their shower curtains second thought. If it keeps water in the tub and not all over your floor, then what more could you possibly need?

I’m not certain, but I’m pretty sure that my showers are now a little more fun with a curtain like this one. Made with simple cotton that launders like a dream, the ombre ruffles fade from a dark turquoise at the bottom to a light mint at the top. Inspired by a flamenco dancer’s skirt, the curtain adds a little spice to an ordinary space.

Although my own bathroom is teeny tiny, the curtain doesn’t overwhelm the space and has made it look a little bigger and much more festive. Get your own at Anthropologie for $118.
