The price is right.

If you’re still looking for a last-minute getaway this summer, there’s still time to catch a deal and make your escape. In the July 30th issue of the Wall Street Journal, writer Jonnelle Marte noted a stellar deal with The Premier Resorts at Barefoot Resorts in Myrtle Beach, S.C. When making a reservation for Sunday arrivals this August, guests can name their price. That’s right – decide what you want to pay when you make your booking, and the resort will honor your bid. With loads to do and see, including Friday night fireworks and a ton of water sports (including a jet ski dolphin tour!) outside your door, you won’t be at a loss for what to do with your time!

Super sprouts.

August 3rd, 2009 by Catherine

Growing up, my mom would cook and force brussel sprouts upon me at every holiday gathering. I would eat them only because I had no choice, but up until a few days ago, could barely stand the thought of them.

And then I went to my friend’s house for dinner last week.

“What are we having for dinner tonight?” I ask. “The place smells incredible.”

“Oh, just a little of this and a little of that.” Fabulous Friend answers.

“What’s in the oven?” I inquire.

“Brussel sprouts,” my suddenly less fabulous friend replies.

“Really? Ugh. “

“Trust me – you’ll love the way I make them,” she insists.

Rarely do I ever disagree with her, so I went against my better judgment and helped myself to a single sprout. Then I went for seconds, thirds and fourths until I was absolutely stuffed with my once arch-enemy-veggie.

This roasted recipe is a far cry from my mom’s boiled version and absolutely delicious. I recommend making extras – even sworn sprout-haters will be clawing for additional helpings!

Adam & Me.

I love a good dress. If I could live in the tropics and wear dresses every day, I’d probably never give the act of getting dressed a second thought again.

Adam Lippes, a relatively underground designer based in New York, continually manages to impress me with his incredibly simple yet chic designs. Every time I visit his site, there’s another sale and more designs, making me one very satisfied customer. I spotted this one during a stroll past his West Village storefront. How adorable, no?

Tie-die clothes have been under recent scrutiny by fashion experts, who are all divided with the trend’s comeback. I’m all for a little subtle tie-die. What’s not to love, love, love about this dress?

Kiehled over.

Kiehl's

Most makeup experts agree that women only ever need a touch of blush, lip color and mascara to look effortlessly pulled together on any given day. And while I also agree with this thinking, I’m on the fence about what classifies mascara as a “great”. There are some that argue drugstore brands are far superior, while others maintain that more dollars spent will grant you a better lash.

I’m on the fence with this debate and haven’t decided if there is one particular brand that’s better over the next. For now, however, I’m lusting big time over a newbie from skincare giant Kiehl’s. Their Marvelous Mineral Mascara is new to the brand, but already generating major buzz amongst beauty insiders for its incredible results. Made with pure mineral pigments and blended with thickening Acacia Senegal and hydrating jojoba oil, the formula glides on perfectly for all-day flutter. I tried it myself and was astounded by how naturally thick and long my eyelashes looked.

I’m not sure I’ll ever crack the Great Mascara Debate, but a mascara that’s free of parabens and more natural than its peers works for me!
